Ebay - Overcharged for postage.

I recently bought something on Ebay. When the package arrived I notice the price of the postage was double what I had paid. I emailed the seller and politely asked would they refund the difference but they refused to. Can I get Ebay to take action against them and how do I go about it?

Do you mean you had paid double what it actually cost??

Postage also includes packaging not just the cost of the stamp.

It's naughty by the seller but the other alternative is to increase the start price and show lower postage. You need to decide before you bid if the total price - including postage - is acceptable.

No point complaining, you can mention it in feedback though.

There is a point in complaining, overcharging for P&P has been explicitly forbidden by Ebay's ToS for a couple/few years now, they take a dim view of it because they got so many complaints.

I'd threaten to report them unless a refund of the difference less a reasonable amount for packaging is refunded. Don't leave neg feedback until it's done though, that'll work against you.

How much are u talking about. How was it packed. Can the seller claim the handling and packing make up the difference.

Thanks for replies.. The seller told me he did not check the price of the postage and just guessed it. He said I got the item cheap enough so he wasn't going to refund me the difference.

How can I report him to Ebay?

It was packed in a 2nd hand box.

I have already threatened to do this politely but no joy.

Report them then. There's plenty of Help pages on Ebay, I'm sure one of those will tell you how to do so.

Stop being such a nit pick. If you were happy to pay the price that was given then why can't you just leave it at that. Postage and packing includes the price of the stamps, envelope and travel to post office, not just the price you see on the envelope.

DNA evidence also suggests that the seller only gave one lick to the evelope rather than the two the buyer paid for.
    Scum, subhuman scum.

Nit pick? I was happy to pay the price but once I learnt that I was being ripped off by 100%, then I was not so happy. Would you pay €1.10 for a 55cent stamp?

The seller also confirmed that he did not know the price of the posting when he placed the ad, he did not travel to the post office and the packaging was second hand. I politely asked the seller to refund the difference and he has refused hence I have no other options.

    this is not the same

add fuel cost to pic up the stamp , price for packaging ect.... and that makes the total cost , not just the price of the stamp

I think it depends on what you paid for postage. You paid a fiver and it was actually 2.50 or you paid 40 and it was only 20?

If its a few euro I would leave it go for the hassle getting the materials, packaging it and sending it.

How about reading my earlier posts before you reply.

I have been in contact with the seller who confirmed that he did not check the price of the postage before entering the ad, therefore he knew he could be misleading.

And you accepted the postage when you bid.
You were happy when you sealed the deal.

As has been said already, P&P includes the cost of the packing, the time taken to travel to the post office, and the cost involved in travelling. It's not just the cost of the postage alone, which is all you're looking at.

I see no reason to continue this thread as it's just going around in circles.
