Do you not have contents insurance at your rented accommodation?

No is it expensive, could my ring come under that?

We added the engagement ring to the contents insurance, we sent them a valuation certificate for it. Wasn't much extra at all, a few quid is all

Cover your own contents under home policy and add ring as "specified all risks with accidental damage" to cover for loss, theft or damaging it accidently outside of you home as well as inside, it'll give you peace of mind after buying the ring.. pm me if ya want

Depends on value of the ring, if it is over €11k they make you get a safe etc and can be quite expensive. Anything under €10k best to add to contents insurance and should be in range of €150 - €250 a year. Over the €11k mark and the cost jumps to €500+ a year on your premium.

Just a quick note that I just renewed our home insurance and found Zurich to be a lot cheaper for specified all risk items than anyone else.

Roughly €1 per €100 value (i.e. €100 odd extra for around 10k worth of items).

The AA gave me the next best quote.

I have contents insurance with No Nonsense and just added my engagement ring to the policy. Most home policies should offer the option of "All Risks" cover as an extra which covers items outside the home and you could then add the engagement ring as a specified item.

I'm owner occupied and it never occurred to me that there would be a difference in the policies. There is no additional risk for items carried outside the home if you rent rather than own.

I just went through the quote on No Nonsense choosing rental and I was able to select cover outside the home with a specified item as well.

We got contents insurance last week on our rental appartment solely to insure my engagement ring. The cheapest quote we got was with Allianz and it was €187 for the year. That covers €19,000 (the lowest they allow) worth of contents, our bikes while in the house and my ring for theft, damage, loss inside and outside the house etc.

Most companies will do contents insurance for renters and cover items outside of the home when they are specifically named on the insurance policy.

I can recommend Frank Glennon Brokers. They got us a cheaper quote than we had found online.

We are renting also and have contents insurance with bank of ireland. The thing to remember to do is just cancel your policy ever year so you can avail of the new price for new policies - there's no issue with doing that so might as well avoid the steep second year price increase. Did that again in january just gone and it was 105 for the policy. Added an engagement ring to the policy in february for just 11 euro extra. Definitely worth it imo.
