    Evening all,

I recieved a fine in court of €400 3 months ago now, It is due on the 2nd of february and i'm not going to be able to get the money together for it. Is there any way you can get an extension on the time you have to pay and if so how do i go about this?

The fine was imposed on the basis that i was doing my fas course earning €200 per week, So 2 weeks pay. But i finished that course only a week after appearing in court so my weekly income went back down to €130. After rent and other bills i'm left with a very small sum of money every week and with christmas for my son it was impossible to try and put money away for it. Just in case anyone was wondering why i didn't save.

Contact the District Court office, they will tell you what to do.

BTW if you knew FAS course was finishing in a week why did you not tell the Judge. Also why did you not appeal, you had 2 weeks to appeal and that would have acted as a stay on any order.

Thanks, We finished a week early and also the solicitor was speaking on my behalf and tbh i don't think the judge would have cared what i had to say.

It costs money to appeal though does it not?

Yes it costs extra to appeal, and all it would have done is postpone the date you have to pay fine. The DC office will be able to get you before the Judge, he should extend time to pay fine, I have seen it happen before.

You could get a loan to pay the fine then pay the loan of over time.

Or request the court take payments per week (if they do that).

Section 15 of the Fines Act allows payment of fines by installments, but it has not been commenced yet. So there is no way to currently pay by installments.

hi all, I was wondering how many extensions can you get to pay a fine,I already have got one extension in the district court but i still dont have the money to pay,I was fined 1250 euro for not submitting a tax return but I have been unemployed for the last 10 months, what happens if you cant get another extension? off to the joy? if it is possible to get another extension is it hard to get, as in do the courts give out 2nd extensions without too much difficulty? I would appreciate any advice any of you might have for me. thanks in advance
