Im wrecking my head trying to pick one
Well two, since the 600D and D5100 are about the same.

I'm going to be using it for mainly music videos that's why im interested in the adjustable screen rather than the fixed screen of the 550D but is all that extra money worth it?
The two cameras are almost exactly the same (550D and 600D)

The Nikon 5100 has continious auto focus during video mode, though it isn't the best, it'll be handy since i've no experience with manual focus

    What are your thoughts?

Which one should i get? 9 votes

For video go for the 600D.

D5100 doesn't allow manual exposure as easily as the 600D, you have to set and lock exposure before switching to live view and then recording video. The 50mm f1.8 costs half as much for the Canon too (€100ish to Nikon's €200ish). Articulated screen is essential for video, no?

Oh, and the Nikon doesn't have any custom firmware, like Magic Lantern for the Canon.

Thats what i was thinking, but Articulated screen does make it easy to shoot from different angles. And i watched a comparison of the two on YouTube and the reviewer said to stay away from the D5100 for videoing because of the exposure but i didn't know what he was talking about to be honest

Ignoring the content of this video, watch what happens at 1:30 when he flips the grey card over. That's because the camera is set to auto exposure. :D

That's going to happen to any AE system on spot metering. Not a Brand issue. Expose manually or use the AE systems correctly and it's not an issue.

I voted for the 550d, bar the screen no difference between that or the 600d. Image quality is excellent and enough features to keep anybody happy.

That's my point; the D5100 doesn't allow manual exposure in video mode.
