Cost to charter a bus

Has anyone any idea how much it costs to charter a bus from Dublin to Cork (one-way)?

I will call companies tomorrow but need rough estimates. I am guessing around €500 for a 50 seater and €600 for a 70 seater.

I know that might sound a bit low but I reckon they are cheaper now because bus companies that served corporate clients and group trips are probably over capacity.

    Anyone any idea?

Many coach hire firms have got in to running scheduled routes or subcontracting for them/for BE so don't expect there to have been much if any price reduction; especially as fuel has gone up significantly.

You are looking at around €500-€600 for a day's hire of a coach. You will not find that many 70 seater coaches out there as distinct to double deck city buses which are unsuitable for a long trip given the seats and slow maximum speeds. Bearing this in mind, you will find that you may be better off requiring a second bus which will cost you circa €400 for the day for a 23 seater bus. Don't forget; a one way hire will mean that a bus will need to return empty so you will probably end up being charged for the day's hire (Buses need time to fuel, prep before pick up and this is built into the hire cost)

If you are shifting that many people from city centre to city centre you might be better off going via scheduled bus or rail; there are group rates available if you have enough numbers.

I get a double-decker back to Cavan every other week and I have seen that private companies have them, although not many.

What is the capacity of a large Bus Éireann single decker? 55?

It is around 47-49 for the typical coach. There are the larger coaches with the upper and lower deck but they aren't as common in service, let alone to hire but you never know until you ask.

Do you reckon that is VAT incl?

Yes and no. Yes as in that would be the full price and no as in there is no VAT applicable that I know of :)

I have seen them to hire and they are for corporate clients, but I don't reckon corporates are splashing out so much on the Christmas parties anymore. Corporates are retrenching, like Tesco, and managers don't get their perks and bonuses as much.
