Hi all, i'm looking to get a car on the road the thing is the test is out for past 19months roughly. The test would be due in june again if it had passed its last test. The previous test ran out and it was never retested, its a 04 avensis.

Its a decent car and should pass handy enough but im wondering if i should wait till june or do it now?

Thing is if i put a test on it now will it be due in june again?

If you intend using it you must test it.

You do not have a choice. You are legally obliged to have a current NCT.

If the car is on private property and not being used does it need an NCT? He said he is looking to get the car on the road and is wondering should he wait. Why presume he is going to drive it around illegally?

Are you buying it or is it already yours? If buying make the owner pay for an NCT, otherwise it'll be €100 in NCTs to drive it between now and June.

yeah i already own the car, looks like my best option is to leave it off the road until june and get it tested then, having said that ive been stopped plenty of times with no nct and the guards never even questioned it

His question was should he get the car tested now or wait to June. Your answer doesn't make sense.

has anyone here ever gotten fined for not having a current NCT?

I know of someone who has been fined and If I am not mistaken , driving a car without nct now incurs penalty points

Even if you get it tested now the NCT cert will only be valid until it's next scheduled date which is in June.

yeah thats what i thought but cant you also get a car tested up to 6 months early? Would this apply in this case

Might as well bite the bullet and run it through the test. Car is worthless without one and if you get it tested and cleared in January you can do what you want with it. Check the basic stuff lights tyres etc and give it a lash :D
Deal with June when it comes !:p

Just apply now, get it tested and then tested again in June. The test costs €50, a 04 Avensis will be depreciating by over €100 a month, leaving it parked up for 5 months to "save" €50 will cost you €450. It's €50 for a test which may tell you it's a moving deathtrap.

You can test it 3 months before its due date.
With regard to being fined, the answer is yes, one I remember was a district court judge.
