Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Capturing Hi8 Tapes onto Laptop

I purchased a USB video grabber tool kit (Silvercrest) recently to record all my Hi8 tapes onto my laptop. However after setting it all up the quality of download is very poor to say the least. I'm using the usb with direct connection to a vhs camcorder. I load up some software for capture and editing and I can watch what is being recorded and have tried every adjustment there is but to no avail. Has anybody had a similar experience and how did you get round it if at all.

Silvercrest - did you buy it in Aldi/Lidl? Basically you're going from Digital to Analogue to Digital again using what is probably a very poor quality capture device.

I digitised a load of my old Hi8s recently using a Sony Camcorder and a Firewire link. All very simple and everything is kept digital. You could pick up something along those lines plus a Firewire card for your PC for under €100 if you keep an eye out on adverts.ie.

Isn't Hi8 an analogue format ? There is a format called Hi8 Digital but the OP doesn't mention it. One way of knowing is if there is a Firewire or iLink connector on the camcorder.

By the way, how are you getting the Hi8's into a VHS player ?!
