New Year's resolution- avoid buyers from Italy on Ebay

So against all the advice on Ebay's forums (I sold a number of items in the lead up to Christmas) to amongst many buyers one from Italy. Cue an email within a week from the buyer in Italy asking for a tracking number for postage as they hadn't received their items yet (this all in midst of the Christmas postal rush). A buyer in Australia received their purchases with zero hassle as had some guy in Croatia. What is it with Italy and either a crap postal service or dishonest buyers. The italian had never requested their items to be sent registered in the first place so I don't get where they think I can produce a tracking number from now. Also I had given them a tenners refund via Paypal the day I posted their items 'cause I had vastly over estimated postal charges to Italy- I never got a reply let alone a 'thank you' when I contacted them to let them know of the refund. What makes me suspicious of the buyer's behaviour is I sent his items (about 80 euros worth of vinyl records) in two separate packages. What was Oscar Wilde's quote about losing parents?! Well for one package to go missing was unfortunate but for two to go walkabout is careless...or to me suspicious.
The seller has now opened a Paypal dispute so I will no doubt kiss goodbye to the vinyl and the cashola.

moral of the story: always use registered post! i got burned like that before never again. if a buyer wants your item bad enough they will pay the extra for registered post

Agreed. Its a real turn off for online selling, plus a struggle trying to maintain a 100% positive feedback.

When the same thing happened me ebay refunded the seller what he had paid. Think it was €23. I never paid ebay back and my account hasnt been closed or anything so I wouldnt worry about it and just let it slide if you want. Just use registered post from now on

Very strict Customs as we also found out to our cost too.
Best to ignore Italy when placing items on eBay .-

I really think though that some Italian buyers use this to their advantage and claim non-delivery too soon .

All packages shipped to Italy have to go through rigorous clearance and declaration procedure , regardless of value of item.

Best New Years resolution I've seen so far !
