When will clubs or FA's learn to stop giving jobs to managers just because they win a couple of games in Europe.

The North will just continue to be sh!te, at best.

Norn Iron could appoint a genius Italian manager who's won it all, but they'd still be ****e.

They'd undoubtedly be ****e alright but they might still qualify for a finals.

He's on 60% of the previous manager.

Cost cutting time at the IFA.

They are crap, but they would fancy their chances of qualifying for the Euro's when it moves to 24 teams

well they have 2 years to find out if MON is up to the job. they know they havnt a hope in hell of making it past russia and portugal. in a very good campaign, they could take isreal and improve their rankings. he will truly have to do an awful job to be seen as a failure.
what id be more interested in is; with all the ones in the north who dont like shamrock rovers i wonder will he get similar treatment to some of the celtic players. might be a test if they finally have their house in order as things do seem to have quietened down lately. if they fail they can continue to f off with losing players to ROI argument

I want to see him do well, but I don't particularly want to see the team do well.

Can't see O'Neill doing a worse job than Worthington but they're in a tougher group than last time so whatever improvements are made may not be reflected by the results there. They might be better off improving their chances of higher seeding in future by lining up friendlies against higher ranked teams like Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Uzbekistan, Haiti, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Iraq, Cape Verde Islands and Libya. If they can get past that calibre of opposition, maybe they could even have another crack at Estonia.

Not a hope in hell he'll get them to a Finals.

Hopefully they continue to lose games and players to the Republic.

    Good luck MON
Personally I would have like to have seen Magilton get the job.

Hopefully MON can guide us out of the Worthless years!

Jesus, there's a lot of hostility to N.I here. Still got a few decent players.

Think he'll do a great job to be honest, quite a bit of potential as a manager. Can see him having a good bit more passion than Worthy anyway.

Maybe now politics wont get in the way for McCourt and McGinn if they are doing well for their clubs, and they might get a proper run out for NI.

Will Chris Turner get a call up?

In all fairness Iraq have won a continental title.

What is it with the North though? In the last 20 years the Republic has produced at least two world class players (Roy Keane and Shay Given, Duffer if he wasnt nearly permanently injured) and several top quality "good players, not great players" as the genius would put it. Players who got regular game time at top 8 PL clubs. The North in that time has only a handful of players who managed to get regular Premiership games, let alone any players regarded as very good. Jonny Evans is the only recent player who I recall getting semi regular top 4 football. I know they have a smaller population, but Dublin has a smaller pop than N.I yet has produced god knows how many more good players in the last 20 years. And for one half of the Northern population there isnt GAA sports competing for the kids interests.

Largely playing for pretty average teams.

McCourt put in one of the best performances for N.I in many a year and was superb and got a standing ovation from the crowd.

So why post on it so?

Because its about the football appointment of the ex shamrock rovers boss to his new job. As I support Rovers and rate o Neill, I was interested in the thread unti all theusual suspects showed up.

O Neill will do well. He excels at taking on big teams with limited resources and now that NW has gone we won't have the sectarian attitude to players in our league like turner who are worth a place in the squad.
