I was hoping to buy a Nettop to be used as a HTPC over Christmas. I would normally buy electronics like this online but I have some One4All vouchers that I would like to use to purchase it. However when I went into the major computer stores I couldnt see a single Nettop anywhere!

Are these not sold in shops anymore or do I just need to go to specsavers the next time im in town!?

Also I was thinking of getting the Acer Revo 3700. Is this a good choice for a pure HTPC (probably running xbmc) or am I missing something better, that isnt hugely more expensive?

For that sort of money you'd build something much more powerful, see:

Is it really cheaper? I'm caught between what to buy too and the build option never seems to add up for me. I've never built anything but wouldn't be adverse to it but anytime I go onto Komplett to add these things up it doesn't seem to work out. I notice on your thread you said you have a couple of things already, by the looks of it you seemed to have saved 150euro (guess).

If you fancy doing a breakdown of all your equipment - prices and retailers that would be great. I'd love to know.

BTW if this is thread hijacking then answer me on your own one, I'll find it.

I have an SSD hard drive, but you don't even need one, OpenElec will boot from USB key in 12 seconds. I wouldn't be buying a drive at todays prices until the price comes back down again anyways. Other than that all i have its ram which is 20 quid on memoryc.com.

Id be interested in getting a complete parts list from you aswell if you could give one. I am a complete Newbie when it comes to builds so if I was to attempt one it'd be great to build something that is already proven to work!

    This gets you going:

Mobo with Intel cpu and Nvidia graphics:

    Case with psu:

    4GB ram:

You can boot OpenElec off any usb key like this, no need for a hard drive if your media is on another device on your network:

I'd not add a drive until the prices settle back later in the new year, they're a crazy price atm. The 3TB I got earlier this year for €160 is now €340. Don't add a drive unless you actually need one, can be added later.
