Well hello there this is right up my street we specialise in Mercedes and BMW.id like to tell u there a great car well they are but the ain't without there problems.firstly between 80k and 100k the timing chain and tensioner will have to be done that is garenteed we do Afew every month that's mainly the biggest problem the suffer with vacuum pipe failure on the engine also handy enough to fix for someone that knows that engine.apart from that the engines are fairly sound once they have a full service history.the suffer from bottom ball joints needing to be changed a lot also mayb every couple of services.the suspension arms wear also.so apart from that not much else to say just make sure it was well cared for.oh sorry one other point is the metal brake pipes do corrode and are nearly always pulled up upon on the nct so if there not replaced then ul prob have to get that done also.any thing else I can help you with just ask I'd be glad to point u in the right direction if I don't know.

Could u help me? I looked at 07 c200 compressor today . New type body. Mint condition. Nct'd in November. All pass on nct cert. No fail. Drove perfect. Full service history from western motors Galway. Milage at 88 000 or km equivalent. Is there any problems with them or some things I should look out for? Thank you .

Same type setup so all the problems listed are common to yours all the mercedes ball joints and steering links always give trouble.but once it's maintained and it gets what it needs it's a great car.of course I can't predict if something else is under lying as I haven't seen the car. But a nice choice car mite I add

    Manual gearboxes.

The gearboxes as such never give hassle and I no that for a fact.the only problem that happens is on the automatic gearbox the electronics plug starts to leak the o rings go bad bit it's a cheap a quick fix

Are these generation C Class Mercs known for any sort of oil leak issues?

All servicing done by western motors. It was a car belonging to a fleet car hire so I think it would have got everything done to it at the right time. As I said a full service history. Car is mint condition not a scratch. What sort of economy would u expect from it. Price ? ? Would like a diesel but out of my budget. Also looked at a 520 BMW . As u said u are familiar with both which is better / better value??

Curious comparison, a 3 series would be in the same segment as the C class, no?

    Yes but just wondering

Correct, 'What Car' lumps the C-Class, 3-series and A4 together in the category 'compact executive'.

I'd take a 5 over a C class anyway.. as far as I am aware they are quite reliable but I have no experience of petrol versions.

There not hard on fuel but depends on your right foot.also the petrol will sell better the the 220cdi engine as its a very poor engine with lots of problems

Are u in about petrol or diesel
The petrol one does really apart from the rocker cover and the Diesel one just has leaky injectors and bad manifolds with rocker cover leaks

The petrol model was my main query

The petrol engine is pritty good apart from the said problems with the timing chain and tensioner.

What's wrong with the cdi? I have the same basic engine overclocked (mapped from 110 to 140 ps) approaching 200k miles in a 3 ton sprinter camper with no signs of impending doom.

Thanks for your help . You feel the petrol compressor is a good job so. I think I will chance it so. I felt that the diesel 2.2 Mercedes was a bit dead and troublesome.
