    Hi guys,

So I've been thinking about getting a macbook pro. It would be mainly used for video editing, a little bit of compiling, skyping etc..

I have a few reasons for considering a mac in the first place. I get a discount, i'm bored of windows and my asus latop (1.8ghz dual core, 2gb ram and 80gb hd) is getting on in years.I'm finished college so I no longer need a windows system to run specific software. Even with the discount its still expensive. I like that it comes with a hd webcam, final cut is an attractive extra, and it comes with some built in compilers for python, ruby etc..

Am I being too shortsighted? Would a windows 7 machine be better? I can find a similarily spec'd laptop for a lot less. I'm also concerned about component failures, i.e. the sealed battery etc..

Let me know what you'd recommend,

    Cheers,
    Dave

If you have the money theres value in it, truthfully. But you are paying for things like the alumin*um body, the very smart and very proprietary Magsafe Charging system, multitouch, and all that jazz. They're good quality in other words. The difference is how one feels about that quality. I mean I'm not one for a cheap plastic body but as long as it looks primp I don't care if is an alumin*um unibody construction or not. The Charger port is genius though and f*ck them for assumingly having a lock on the patent. Most of what you're paying extra on is the casing and a few things like that (and Apple's profit margin) if you look at just the baseline specs, you can get them way cheaper inside of a way cheaper PC laptop body.

you can always dualboot windows on them.
