Cheap Gaming Laptop

    Howdy lads!

Basically I've been getting bits and bobs of money together to get myself a laptop. I wanna be able to play stuff like Flight Simulator and the latest EA Sports titles (FIFA, NHL, that type of thing). Besides that I just want enough processing power to run stuff like photoshop and audio editing software, and obviously surf the net, documents, music (Take that for granted). Don't wanna be spending more than 600 yoyo's

I'd know more than yer average punter about computers but not a whole lot more, was thinking about getting this. Has 4GB DDR3 RAM, 500GB Hard-Drive, i5 dual core processor and a 1GB Nvidia GeForce 520MX graphics card.

Just one question, it says it's a notebook system, but it has a DVD optical drive, dedicated graphics card and a screen that'd match any laptop, so what's the difference? Does it look like a good buy for what I want?

    Cheers!

Notebook is just a more modern name for a laptop the terms are interchangable .. The gt 520m isn't a great card and isn't much better than the integrated i5 graphics .. You would need to look out for a gt 525 / 540 for decent gaming ...

Any chance of getting something like that on a laptop without spending more than 600? I won't be looking to play Crysis or Mafia 2 or anything too demanding so I wouldn't wanna pay an extra 100 euro's for a graphics card that's more than what I need

That wont game. This here will and its the cheapest you will find. http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/product/ZKB_02PC/02_NOTEBOO/21_15/productdetails/80003313/Asus_15_6_X53TA_SX076V_A6_3400_6GB_640GB/90N71I329H2246VL133C/default.aspx

It'll handle most games on medium at it's native resolution.

Looks good! Thanks for the food for thought, seen the one I put up perform games handy enough on a video review, will go have a look at a few reviews of this but that ATI Graphics card does look more powerful than the Nvidia one

Well when I say it wont game, I'm talking by my standards. :P

The Gt520m is the absolute lowest spec dedicated card from Nvidias latest range. For the games you mentioned like flight simulator and the sports games it'd do ok, but the ATI one I posted will play even new games like Battlefield 3 and Skyrim.

Heres a very long thread on another site dedicated to the laptop, just note some of the problems mentioned in the first few pages likely have been resolved since then as it's old enough and they're generally just driver issues.http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/601808-k53ta-best-deal-ever-could.html

Also looking at the last couple of pages seems people have been able to successfully overclock it too.

Well that's why I stressed from the outset that I wasn't gonna be playing anything near as demanding as BF3! (That's my brother's line of gaming :pac: )

In saying that, that does look like a better option! (Even if the processor is a little bit less powerful but as you say no major issues) and like want this to last a few years so the extra graphics capacity will be used I should suspect. Thanks a lot for that bud, helped a lot!
