13 or 14 inch laptop advice

    I'm looking for a portable laptop either 13 or 14 inch in size.

    I do a fair bit of software development and am studying computer engineering. Wondering if anyone has any advice on a laptop for me.

    Battery life is a major criteria.
    Not too fussed about hard drive size.
    Cd drive optional.
