How will this play out, let's say I signed up for an eircom package at €49.99pm and with the increase in vat it will now be more than the agreed €49.99 if eircom decide to pass on the vat increase to me, can you cancel the contract as the price has changed.

I'm not with eircom at the moment just using it as an example. Will move back to them though.

The price won't change...in other words, the price you are being charged by Eircom won't change...the tax levied by the government (and collected on their behalf by Eircom) is what is changing. Ultimately, Eircom end up with the same amount in their bank. You'll find that the small print has this well covered!
