Looking for advice and/or opinions on what to buy for my new car preferrably Diesel. At the minute I have a 01 1.8 petrol Laguna II supersport. I use the car for going to work/gym/training all easily within 10 miles from home so my milage isn't exactly heavy but it still is thirsty enough on petrol.

I'm probably going to have approx €5000, depending what I get for my own which, honestly, probably won't be much. NCT is out and the central locking doesn't work but a clean enough car. Any ideas how much?

Would I be better going to a dealer and try get them to take my one as a trade in or would I be better off trying to get somebody to buy it cheap then go to the dealer with cash?

As for what kind of car to buy I'm really not sure. I'd love an early noughties BMW or C-Class which I've seen around my price range. But is it more "sensible" to go for a newer, less fancy car? Cheaper parts, less maintenance, better resale possibilities etc. I know it's probably a matter of preference but any advice would help.

I LOVE this car but I think I'd have a seisure handing over €1200 a year for tax!
