Downfall of the Nazis and Fianna Fail: Similarities and Contrasts

I watched the film Downfall last night on RTE 2. I could not help but noticing some stark similarities between the downfall of the Nazis and the downfall of Fianna Fail.

There was a stage where Hitler believed his army could still win even when the odds were stacked against them. He believed younger Nazis could take up the fight. This is analogous to older and more useless FF politicians resigning to make way for younger (and equally useless) FF blood. Cowen had plans to make all of these ministers in the belief they could help him win another election.

In the final few weeks Hitler claims no one understood him anymore.
With Brian Cowen, people did understand what he stood for. He was a fat, lazy and arrogant drunk who was always ready to put party before country.

Hitler was mourning the loss of oil from Nazi controlled oil wells. Cowen was mourning the loss of tax revenue from pyramid building schemes.

Hitler makes the point at one stage that it was the people’s mandate that got him into power. Brian Cowen intimated this point also.

Towards the end, high-ranking Nazis – like the thugs that they were - just opened up bottles of booze and got drunk while they laughed at the plight of their country. Similar thing happened in the Leinster House bar and the lodge house of Farmleigh. (The Nazis, however never made any requests to their guards to go down to the local chipper to bring back bags of chips)

Hitler killed himself. Cowen can still be found propping up a bar in Clara knocking back pint after pint of Carlsberg.

What other similarities or differences did you notice between the fall of Nazism and Fianna Fail?

Now this is taking Goodwin's Law a little too far.

Be careful,if Brian Cowen sees this,he'll be fuhrerious.

    Ridiculous thread.

Every corrupt dynasty and cult tries to keep itself going by blooding new, similar-minded recruits.

Singling out the Nazis is ridiculous.

Constrasts: One of the main ones I can think of was the big ass war with millions of death.

Similarity: Both Cowen and Hitler were using massive amounts of drugs towards the end.

For Hitler it was amphetamines, for Cowen it was booze - the reason perhaps being to numb the obviously harsh reality check they both received.

Note: I don't actually think Cowen is comparable to Hitler, I'm in it for the irony :)

Actually find this amusing that someone would compare cowen to hitler.
For a start hitler was actually successful at something and not just plain lucky ala cowen who happened to be in government, upto 2008, during the times when money was no object.

Saying that cowen was never responsible for the needless deaths of millions of people.

The only way I compare nazis to ffers is that some members are so fanatical that they continue to support them no matter what.

I am not allowed discuss …

The lock should have happened ages ago. It is unbelievable that tripe like this has been allowed to stay untouched in this forum for this length of time!

Yep I reported this last night and again just now. Four of the mods have been actively posting since then. It appears they do not read the threads we report after all

Even a glance at the title of this thread should have told them that the quality of this subject matter was highly questionable.

    You have my apologies!

I saw this this morning, and was sure I locked it. Thats the problem with tabbed browsing and me not having coffee.

I don't think I really need to say why this thread is being locked

    Cheers
