Dunno about bike hire - though I seem to recall a thread about this some time back - use the search facility here.
As for routes, www.strava.com is your man. There's certainly not going to be any shortage of climbs..:D Here's a sample....

Been there a couple of times and hired bikes at renner bikes I think is the name of shop. Its on the main sea front road above a couple of pubs heading back towards airport from mulligans pub about fifteen minute walk.Good selection of alu and carbon bikes around 80 euro to 100 a week depending on choice of bike.German owner will advise on routes etc and supply map.

Theirs a bike hire shop on the way up to the Los Hibiscus Hotel .you turn up off the main promenade and its a stone throw then, 50 yards id say. They are two spar shops above it for a marker.I did nt hire a bike there but from what i could see from passing they had good few specialized on the racks, and were plenty people coming and going from it,when i was there in August, if thats any help.

I used Renner last February. Excellent bikes, excellent service. bring you own shoes. they have good helemts. the best climb on the island is Femes coming from the Playa Blanca side. I think its a category 1 climb. there is also a beautiful cycle along the coast near el golfo in the same area. bring your climbing legs to lanzarote and expect the challenge of the wind. it is a great place to train.

Ive been in gran canaria few years ago and was looking to rent a bike there. They don't offer any insurance so if you crash the bike and damage the frame the bill can be quite hefty. Not sure if its still the same today or on any other island.

Hi all, actually there is a 4th shop. I hired a carbon Tarmac and my friend hired an aluminium bike from Revolution Bikes up the road past the big Chinese on the way to the Hibiscos Hotel. We found them on tripadvisor and I can´t speak highly enough of the English people that run the place, they were friendly, gave excellent service and bikes and routes marked on maps.

Dragging up an old one here but is it worth the hassle of bringing my own bike out with me (10 days) or should I just hire ?? Heading out in April for some warm miles !

For 10 days I would bring my own.

Less hassle when hiring and cost just the same, if you break it down. Also the hire company will have a replacement within a few hours except on Sundays if anything was to break or go wrong.. I have dealt with the one guy over the years and he is great just pre book and send him details of your set up, bike was always 100% for me down the years.
I always deal with Peter from Renner Bikes, a decent guy will give you a discount or throw in free bottles.

If you're travelling with Ryanair,it will cost you €120 to take your bike. It will probably cost you a few extra quid for taxi hire.
Bike hire for 10 days will be about €140 or so.
So, in monetary terms, not a lot in it.
So, you'll have to weigh up the benefit of having your own bike, against the hassle of packing and unpacking your bike and hawking it to and from airport.
10 days, in my opinion, is about the break even point. Anything shorter, rent. Anything longer, bring your own.
I'll be there in April, going for a bit longer, bringing my own bike.

I rented on two occasions from Papagayo bikes. They also organise guided cycles as well. Good prices and good service. They have a shop in Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise but they also drop off and collect from hotels.

In del Carmen there's hire places everywhere. I used sensation bikes. Great service and nice bike.

    Enjoy the wind.

I used Revolution Bikes when I was out at Christmas and found them great. Was there for 11 nights but with Christmas and family stuff I only rented for two days. They have decent Specialized Tarmac Sports.
I rented off Flinstons once but the bikes are very racy geometry Bottechnias.
Did two great days cycling with another boardsie. Up through Timanfaya National Park the first day and over to El Golfo and down the North coast the second.
    Definitely book in advance.

The volcanic ash to the south of El Golfo is worth a visit. Never seen anything like it before.
