Long story but I bought a car in the UK 3/4 years ago and imported it and paid all the VRT etc.

Now I'm back in the UK and want to register it again in the UK. Does anyone know or can point me towards some information which says I would not be liable to pay VRT again if I imported it back into Ireland again in a year or 2.

If you can prove you owned and VRTed it before you won't have to do it again. Nothing to worry about.

Vrt on a car is only payable once, so you could reg it in uk then re reg it on Irish plates.

Local council won't give me a parking permit when it's on irish plates.

    Not true.

Anyone can re-import a once-ROI-registered car without having to pay VRT.

When you go to reregister it back in the ROI you will even get the same reg number you had before moving it back to the UK. As Colm said VRT is only every paid here once.

Yea you'll be exempt, just make sure you have proof of everything like purchase receipts and proof of address. Look up vrt exemption on revenues website.

    What are you on about?

The car will be exempt from VRT because it has already been paid. The exemptions you refer to do not apply.

Correct. No need to prove anything about the car.

Once they feed the chassis number into their computer the old number will be reactivated.
