Damaged paintwork

    Hi all,

In an attempt to remove a side moulding from my Focus, I used white spirits to remove the adhesive that was left on the door. Once I finished removing it, I washed it with fairy liquid and warm water. When this dried I noticed that the area I used the white spirits on was lighter than the rest of the paint - washing it again returned it to the colour it should be, but once it dried the whitish patch reappeared.

I suspect the white spirits might have dissolved something protecting the paint, causing the discolouring, and I imagine if that's the case it'll mean a door respray. Am I correct or will I be able to avoid this?

    Any advice is much appreciated.

Yes prob just removed some of the laqaur but what you could try first is abit of rubbing compound polish and the some blue car polish u might be lucky and it might restore it.just on removing the door strips you should of used a heat gun and maybe petrol if u didn't have a heat gun to hand anyways try what I said might get the colour back for you

Agreed, a good polish with a but of cut should sort it.

Are you going to colour code the door trims?
