Car Hire - Help & Suggestions?

I'm looking to hire a car for almost 3 weeks (19 days) in late January/early Feb. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg if I can avoid it. Ideally I would like to get the car from, and return the car to Dublin Airport.

Any recommendations for which companies are the best to deal with? Any to avoid? I have had my licence for 3.5 years and am over 25, if that makes any difference?

    Thanks in advance!

Depends on what size of car you're looking for and what you consider an arm and a leg.

However, a quick search on auotoeurope.ie shows up €256 for a Golf from 22 Jan-09 Feb.

    Or €215 for a 2 door Corsa.

    That's approx €13 or €11 per day.

    Not bad in my opinion.

    Thanks for the help.

1 more thing - about the amount blocked on your credit card at pick up. It says that the amount will be excess + fuel + VAT. How much does the 'excess' usually work out to on, say an Opel Astra or Golf? Even an estimation would be helpful. Thanks again!

    Depends on the rental company.

If you hit the Terms & Conditions link and then look under "YOUR RENTAL INCLUDES" it should mention the excess.

It varies from about 600 to about 1600.
