Stoke: Sorensen, Woodgate, Huth, Shawcross, Wilson, Shotton, Palacios, Whitehead, Etherington, Jones, Walters. Subs: Begovic, Diao, Pennant, Upson, Delap, Wilkinson, Jerome.

Aston Villa: Guzan, Cuellar, Dunne, Collins, Warnock, Albrighton, Clark, Petrov, N'Zogbia, Agbonlahor, Heskey. Subs: Marshall, Ireland, Delfouneso, Bannan, Weimann, Johnson, Gardner.

Referee: Mark Clattenburg (Tyne & Wear)

The worst away day in football awaits Villa tonight.

I could not see a Villa win in this one.

    Will predict a draw.

    Puke football.

Absolute horrible rubbish from 2 bad teams that don't try play football.

I feel like cancelling my sky membership, what were they thinking showing this?

It's like RTE showing crap on Saturday nights, they assume everyone is on the lash and won't care.I've got a stream on in the background and haven't watched more than 10 seconds of it (won't even bother switching it over on the tv) Who thought this would be a good game for live tv needs a kick in the nuts.

Thought he was probably the best player on the pitch in the first half.

Disgusting football though. Collins/Dunne to Heskey, lost, Huth/Shawcross to Walters or Jones, lost. Repeat.

Sorensen did will as did Agbonlahor in the build up.

I can't believe some people - other than their fans - actually like Stoke and want them to stay up.. If there's one club i'd wish bankruptcy on it'd be Stoke. On top of being a horrible team to watch, they're also a pack of ugly bastards.

You really don't have a clue do you? I'd guess this is the first game that Stoke have played in against a team outside the top 4 in quite a while. They are generally exciting to watch and play good football these days.

They are playing against an Alex McLeish team, nobody looks good against a McLeish team.

Both sides deserve to lose, but for the reasons above, Stoke always deserve to lose more.

The one thing I wanted Liverpool and United to do this season was beat Stoke..and neither have. For feck's sake.

They play sh it football, get over it. Far more people would be happy to see them go down than to stay up. They're just a horrible football club with hatchet-men for players and thugs for fans.

I'd love to know the corner and throw in count.

Delap even throwing it in from the halfway line now.

woop I feel im obliged to watch villa games, its always a relief to get another one out of the way just 20 left!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

Alex McLeish made that game what it was. He is totally useless. You see it in every game Villa play. Midfield or striker has the ball......and usually has one option to pass to. No support, No attacking intent, NO off the ball movement. It's pathetic.

Birmingham played the exact same way. It's anti football. Defending is an art and deserves a place in the game. But watching Inter Milan frustrate the hell out of Barca is not the same thing as watching this crap. Villa actually have a more talented team than stoke and yet Alex McLeish has no intention of letting his team score a goal. He sets them up the same every time.

Absolute shocking football, people complain about the standard of the loi??? the Premier League with the exception of a few teams is made up of teams who want to hoof the ball all day long.

United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Swansea, West Brom and Wigan play attractive football.

Fulham , QPR, Bolton and Sunderland atleast try to....even though they don't succeed every time.

The problem is teams like Blackburn, Stoke and Villa who have managers who don't bother. Don't tar the whole league with the same brush tbh.

Stoke and Villa have both lashed out a good few quid, in particukar Stoke, and yet they turn in a display like that. If teams play long ball because of lack of cash/limited squad then thats one thing but to spend millions and still play long ball and long throw is poor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,653 ✭✭✭kingshankly

I'm gonna tape that game when it's replayed on sky as it can be used as a firm of punishment for my kids for years to come.
Should of just called it a draw at the start and saved us the hardship

Anyway, the best thing about that game was Agbonlahor ploughing into him.

No offense, but that quote strikes me as being written by someone who reads more into hype than someone who actually watches Wigan play.

I have watched Wigan several times this season I really don't understand this perception that surrounds Wigan as being a good team to watch (unless you count them being slaughtered by the opposition almost every week) and Martinez as being some sort of genius manager. Short of some passing and build up play in their own half of the field, most of their attacks don't end up any different to that of Stoke (i.e. pump the ball up to Conor Sammon, the big fella). They have the worst goal scoring record and concede the third most amount of goals in the league - in other words, they can't score for shít and their defending isn't much better (if not for Al Habsi, their position would be even worse). The ironic thing about Wigan is that their best performances (for me at least) came from playing much football and grinding out the results (i.e. the draws against Chelsea and Liverpool)

Which Premier League teams play hoof-ball?

Stoke and Wolves are the obvious ones, fair enough. Villa have becoming increasingly disposed towards the long ball, that's fair enough too. Other than that, I am struggling to think of a team that would play more than 50% of their attacks with the long ball. Bolton and Blackburn certainly aren't in that category anymore.

I find it funny that most teams that lose to Stoke, Liverpool before, spurs now, hate Stoke. Probably the only time they will watch them. They are the only team I fear in the pl. I could stomach a loss to the likes of utd city or chelsea

There's good reason behind fearing losing to a side that are that bad at football. At least with 'Utd, City or chelsea', you can accept that they might be better at it than your team..

If the entire league is prepared to take the credit for being the best in the world, they have the criticism as a whole too...

Right ya, because I haven't been saying this for the past year or two. I've always hated Stoke and it wouldn't matter if Spurs beat them every time they played or not. They're thugs, and their manager spends millions so they can continue playing like thugs. I haven't seen them once trying to pass the ball around and I don't think I ever will so long as Pulis is in charge.
