Problem with Springer Spaniel

    Hoping for some advice...

My brother has a 9 month old springer, really smart dog, bright as a button but he is strangely fascinated by shadows. He could spend an hour looking at the ground at the movement of his own shadow; his ears moving for example.

Is this normal? He's been at it for weeks. He'll try and pounce on them, or jump at a wall, should his shadow be on a wall. Tail is going the whole time, but I find it weird...

Any ideas? If he's on the scent of a shadow, nothing will deter him, he's fully zoned in. Otherwise, a friendly affectionate happy dog...

welcome to our world - Flint's the same - hours and hours of fun chasing shadows. Esp when the birds fly over the garden, over and back like a lunatic. It's not going to cause him any harm. Just make sure he's well watered when he comes in.

    Huh?!

    Seriously?!

Does he do the same while out in the field?

He's only a pet, brother doesn't shoot, but he'll do it anywhere on flat ground that will take a shadow.

He will stare at the ground for ever, as long as there's movement.

Nop when Flint is out in the field he is totally focused on hunting. bring him home and show him a shadow and he is like a dog possessed

I think we should start a video/photo thread for 'funny stuff our dogs do'... I'd love to see that!

If my springer bitch is out around the yard and I go into the house she'll literally follow me around the house. She puts her paws up on the window sill watching me inside the room. If I leave the room she goes nuts around the house looking into whatever room she can until she finds me again.

I know it doesn't solve your problem but I just thought I'd share. :D
