    hey

Ive just been wondering about the dental hospital..ive been a couple of times, last time i went a student pulled out a tooth, i got the impression from her that it could have been the first time she done this or at least she had not done it many times before.. so ive been thinking about the work they do there.they do fillings, extractions and the probly do root canals and other work?

i know if people are in pain they are happy to have a first time student pull a tooth or do a filling so they can be pain free but without the customers wouldnt the students not be able to learn their trade?

its not like they can practice pulling teeth out of dead pigs skulls or something,im wondering how the costings work in this place, should the customers have to pay or should the students have to pay the college and allow us to have a free filling or whatever? what kind of come back do you have if a nervous student messes up a tooth on you?

im not complainign about the work they do,id be happy to go again and pay to have another tooth pulled or a filling done.im just curious

I am not understanding the question? You pay for treatment but at a greatly reduced rate for most routine items. The students are supervised by experienced dentists or dental specialists who can handle anything that the student cannot.

Having spent many year in the dublin dental hospital I can say that the treatment by students is good and well though out. However it does take a long time as the students have to get everything checked making even the smallest procedure time consuming.

Every procedure a dentist does is done for the first time at some point. Infact fully qualified dentists add new treatments to their practice all the time and somebody is going to be the first here too.

I am not understanding the question? .

i was trying to say that the students are using us to learn their trade so im wondering how much do the students have to pay for this or are they being paid a wage or how does this place manage to keep operating at a profit? if you go to study in college you have to pay school fees, whos making up the balance of the work u get done in there, does it come out of the students pocket or where

Students don't get paid. I very much doubt any dental hospital operates at a profit, massive loss more like. Funding is a combination of Student Fee, Foreign student fees, HSE funding, Government grants, Patient fees, research grants and a few other bits and bobs.
