They were very close and many have said that Adriano achieved what he did in his career with a motivation of trying to make his father proud as they were very close. It's very tragic imo. I remember Mourinho summed it up at Inter a few years back when Adriano never returned from a trip home to Brazil. He said there would be no disciplinary actions or any consequences, and that he wasn't worried about Adriano the footballer - but he was very concerned for Adriano the man.
