strange yellow balls...

    was doing some digging down the beach today and seemed to find loads of small spiky yellow balls. they are some kind of creature as i cracked one open and it had guts. I didnt have a camera handy so no photo. i'll try to stick one up over the next few days.
    Iv dug on this beach many times before and never seen them.
    Just wondering if anyone knows what they are.

    Where is the beach?
    If you don't manage to get photos, could you describe them in more detail?

    Juvenile sea urchins perhaps?
