Just bought a new TV for Christmas and having problems with no audio, just a hiss, on BBC1, MTV and Setanta using UPC analogue service in south dublin. The TV is a 28" Hannspree LED TV. It picks up all 17 channels on the scan and 14 of them work perfect but those 3 I cannot get the audio even with finetuneing. Can anyone help, it was a Christmas present :-(

Maybe of little help But I had a similar problem with MTV years ago and the only solution was to set the audio to mono on the channel

Make sure the TV is tuning on the correct version of PAL (I) rather than B/G and several other versions, this will result in perfect pictures and no sound or very poor sound. I have heard of people being told by TV retailers that new TV's arent 'compatiable' with UPC analogue service and consequently need to buy something else, and the other regularly heard lie that the UPC analogue is being switched off next year which if coursee isnt true either

Thanks. Any idea how I can see which version of PAL it selected? I did not see anywhere in the menus this level of configurability.
Is it possible it could incorrectly use PAL B/G for just a 3 channels and get the others 14 correct.
Manuals are here but cannot find refernce to PAL types there either.

Page 28 of the manual going by your link. Under "channel edit" you can choose the sound system.

Thanks Tax Man. You're correct. On all the good channels it is picking "I" for the sound system and on bad channels it is picking "D/K".

The bad news is this does not appear configurable. It is grayed out in the menu and is the manual it is described as "displays sound system" on page 29.

Think I'm at the end of the road with this one and it's back to the shop. Could be fun explaining as the shop is in Co. Clare so don't have UPC.

    Thanks for all the help
