Saorview Connection

Hey there, just wanted to ask about connecting saorview, we only have the old ntl pipe now and we are not sure on what way to go now.

If we got Saorview would the only way of connecting it be by installing an aerial or is it possible to use the existing pipe that we use now and connect it to the box?

Also I saw on the saorview website that it has less channels listed than we would have at the moment with the pipe such as BBC channels, or are they just not listed but available on the Saorview box?

If it's the case that we had to install an aerial just so we would receive less channels than we are getting at the moment then I think we would just be better off finally bothering to get sky.

    Thanks for reading :)

Saorview is a replacement for the existing RTE analogue transmissions ... and nothing else, except that they have a couple of extra channels like 3e etc. As before it is received via an aerial. The analogue service will be switched off at the end of next year, leaving only the digital Saorsat service.

Next year there will be a parallel service called Saorsat, which will deliver the same TV & radio channels via a new satellite setup. For those who can receive the transmissions via aerial there is no need of this service.

Sky is received via a satellite dish, and is not necessary to receive the BBC and hundreds others. Those channels are 'free to view' and so a non-Sky satellite receiver will pick them up.

If you want some of the pay-to-view channels from Sky, like Sky Sports, Movies etc, then you need a Sky subscription. If you do not require any of those pay-to-view services then you have no need to pay Sky.
