This is the pick of the bunch from the Currys Sale.

    http://www.currys.ie/Product/SAMSUNG-UE40D5003-40andquot-Full-HD-LED-TV/311580/339.0
Available to purchase online from about 5 mins ago and in stores from 09.00 on Monday 26th .
    There are no limited or capped stock deals or any of that. Key one's I'd highlight on the TV category are ;

    Samsung 32 " LED @ € 349 http://www.currys.ie/Product/SAMSUNG-UE32D4003-32andquot-HD-Ready-LED-TV/310426/339.0

    LG 47 " Full HD LED @ € 629.99 ( This is the 26th only ) http://www.currys.ie/Product/LG-47LV450U-47andquot-Full-HD-LED-TV/305698/339.0

    Samsung Smart 40 " Full HD LED @ € 579.99 http://www.currys.ie/Product/SAMSUNG-UE40D5520-40andquot-Full-HD-LED-TV/305744/339.0

    Samsung 43 " HD Ready 3D Plasma @ € 499.99 http://www.currys.ie/Product/SAMSUNG-PS43D490-43andquot-HD-Ready-Plasma-3D-TV/305752/339.0

    LG 50 " Full HD 3 D Plasma 600 hz @ € 699.99 - http://www.currys.ie/Product/LG-50PZ550T-50andquot-Full-HD-Plasma-3D-TV/305656/339.0

Don't think I've ever seen better value on TV for a long time

There are lots more deals on the site and they will all be live from 08.30 on Christmas morning. The Stephen's Day only prices go live at 00.01 on the 26th and last for 24 hours online and for the day in stores.

Stores open their doors at 09.00 on the 26th.

I'm around for an hour or two for any questions but Christmas Day is a day off ( I'm under instructions ! ). Back at 09.00 on the 26th. I'll pick up any and all questions then.

Some great prices there, thanks. Only 1 can be bettered.
    Samsung 43 " HD Ready 3D Plasma @ € 499.99 = 429 @ pixmania

Well we'd love to monopolise the market at Christmas...... but better leave some room!

4 kids and a wife to give some attention to now. Will be back at 09.00 on Stephen's Day for any more questions. Happy Christmas to all.

    Hi Declan,

Can I get Samsung TV UE37D5520 through Curry's?

One other thing - UE32D5520 was €459.99 yesterday but €499.99 today. Have Curry's increased the price simply to appear to drop it for the sale?

Yeah, it's what they always do.

Same with their HP laptop that's apparently on offer for 499 from 699, it wasn't selling at 699 as it's not any way worth it!

    Hi Declan,

Heading into Currys (Limerick) first thing tomorrow to hopefully pickup the Samsung UE40D5003!
Just doing some research on the net, on your website it states '100Hz' and on Currys/Dixions.co.uk it states '50Hz'! Can you please clarify which is correct?

    Thanks for your help,
    Mike

    Hi Declan,

After closer inspection of the pricing of this TV, I found a screen grab that I took the other day to ask my brother to check that this TV was available in your store in Naas.

I sent him this photo through email.

    stvq.png

Yesterday the TV was priced at 499.99 which I thought nothing of, however flicking through emails tonight I found the photo I had sent him in which the TV was 459.99. Then it got me thinking, the TV was always 459.99 over the last couple of weeks as I had been monitoring it. Now the TV is priced at €499.99. Link

Is there any particular reason for this? I did plan on buying this TV but since the 40 quid increase in price for no apparent reason, particularly during a sale, is a real put off.

I'm guessing the 499.99 price will remain until the end of the current sale and when all the TV's you want to get rid of are gone the price will drop back to 459.99 and it will start appearing as some sort of a sale item.

Maybe other people don't mind this. But this sort of sales tactic really gets on my nerves.

And for the record that 459.99 price was like that for weeks.

My perspective is we live in a market economy and it is down to the buyer to get the best deal, not to rely on the seller to tell you it is the best deal.

Hi Mike, I'm finding this odd. The website is populated by the same database for both ther UK and here and all specs should be the same. I'm making calls to investigate but I'd be inclined to think that this is 50 hz. The guys in the store will certainly confirm for you.

That's an understandable point of view when you've been keeping an eye on an item with a view to a price decrease for Sale and then the blasted thing goes up.

Fluctuations in price are down to the negotiations we have with our suppliers. The pre Christmas period and the post Christmas period will see different items on promotion. Pre Christmas the emphasis was on the 32 " and that promotional funding has now moved to the 40 ". The promotional bonus we have on the 32 " finished in the 24th and the bonus on the 40 " kicked in on the 26th.

Mike, I've someone working on this. We've checked competitor websites and lo and behold it's 100 hz there.

Currys and Bargain Alerts... now there's an unlikely combination.
The only way these Currys threads will stay at the top of the Bargain Alerts pages is when someone points out the business practices of the likes of these crowds!

I thought an item had to be at a particular price point for 28 days before being reduced and countin as a "sale item"?

Yes, that would apply to the 40" and other models that are the featured products in the Sale.

    Declan,

Looking at the spec of the Samsung 40", it states that you can use USB Connect share for photos and music - however, movies aren't mentioned (i see in a higher level series 5 samsung they are).

Can you confirm that if i have movies on a USB Harddrive - i will not be able to view them on this set?

    Thanks
    Velo.

Had a chat with our TV manager, bit beyond my competence this. What she's saying is that this is a bit of a minefield and is format dependent. We have used USB movie demos on this TV as far as she knows. But, to be certain, she's recommending bringing your USB to store and being completely certain that it works. Sorry I can't be a bit more certain than that

    Declan can you hold the

    LG 50 " Full HD 3 D Plasma 600 hz @ € 699.99

Price till tomorrow morning, just saw this offer now.

Myself and my father will go in and collect it in the currys parkway branch in limerick tomorrow.

Father is working and has been ringing the shop in limerick, but there is no answer.

He will 100% take it away tomorrow if you can keep the price, you can take my word on it, you can pm me.

    Thanks

Apologies, was going by the model number displayed in the Indo today, Tesco ad is on page 5 (I think) and Currys is page 7. Same model number is displayed on both, with a price of €449 and €479.

Could be our fault too. Will do a steward's inquiry. But the reason I was so certain was that we had a conference call this morning to review competitor deals and my TV manager, who's been at this for many a year, specifically mentioned that she had looked at the Tesco deal, we were same price so no worries there and she thought that another € 30 for an LED was a far better proposition for customers. Doesn't mean the marketing dept didn't put the wrong model no. in the ad !!
