Does anyone have a recommendation for a good Ford mechanic on the Northside? I want to get a quote for a bit of work, electrical and body.

    Cheers.

Well mechanics don't do body repairs so its likely two different places you need.

    And northside of where?

North Dublin, somewhere close to the Sutton/Baldoyle area if possible. Looking to get a quote on a few issues before making an offer on a car.

    What issues has it got?

There's an aftermarket radio that isn't connected to the little arm by the steering wheel. Would like to have that connected for convenience sake as the radio that is fitted it too fiddly to use whilst driving.

The clutch pedal is making a springing squeak when released (asked about this in a thread). Not sure if it's a serious issue.

The accelerator pedal is quite stiff and would be uncomfortable for long drives so would like to get that loosened.

The bodywork issue isn't so much bodywork as the windscreen got cracked a few days ago. Got a quote from Autoglass but wondering what the going rate is elsewhere.

Very few aftermarket radios work with factory steering wheel controls so its unlikely you can do much about that.

It may just be the pedal return spring make a bit of noise, they use a hydraulic clutch so there is no cable to give issue.

    What year/model is the focus?

It would only really be other windscreen places that would be comparable. Any garage, dealer or not, would be pricing from them anyway.

Ah, well if that's the case I may just replace it down the road.

Is there anything that can be done about the return spring making noise? Replace it or lubricate it?

It's a 2005 Mondeo 1.8LX. I would be tempted to just say that that's the way the car is as in the car I drive at the minute the clutch is stiff but the accelerator is much looser. But the pedals on another Mondeo I test drove were perfectly balanced.

I'll give a few of them a call so :)

    Don't know why I was thinking of a focus:o

If Drumcondra isn't too far I'll have a look at it for you if you like.

The squeeky clutch pedal is very common on Fords, I think it is a spring on the pedal itself that makes the noise. Had it on my old Focus and my sister's Fiesta. Never interferred with the way the cars drove and never bothered getting it looked at.

Windscreen can be replaced free of charge if the seller has windscreen cover on their insurance policy. If they do then insist they get it sorted before buying the car.

Brilliant, was hoping it wasn't something more serious. It is pretty annoying though.

Good advice. I'll do that. The seller was just going to remove the cost of replacement from the asking price.

Either way is fine imo as long as both of you are clear on how much a new windscreen costs. If it is a heated windscreen then they are not cheap. Just make sure that you ring around a few windscreen replacement places for prices. And don't forget to tell than that you are paying directly, not going through your insurance. You would be amazed at the price difference.

On the radio thing- the OEM Ford head units appear regularly on eBay for small enough money, so that might be a solution to getting the steering wheel controls working.
