Yesterday I went into collect my rent allowance, I was advised that it was double pay which i was delighted cause I had so much bills to pay. Went in to the post office and the was no money at all there, apparently 9 other people got done aswell. I was so upset cause i needed to pay things off. I went down to community welfare and it was closed. Lucky I have great parents who are willing to help me out.

I dont know how to approach this is issue with social welfare so could anybody advise me please. As if this is not sorted soon im in serious financial difficulty in January. Thank you

Ya see i get paid every friday by the post office. The clerk was saying there were 9 others before me with same issue. It ruined my christmas because i really needed it for bills now. I had to use my christmas savings for my bills.

Do you get paid your rent allowance weekly or monthly?

Monthly payments due 29th December are still due to be paid on 29th December and as Rent allowance is usually paid the last Thursday of the Month, that would make it due to be paid on Thursday coming.

The double payments made last week were for regular weekly payments like Job Seekers payments, One Parent Family or Pensions...

Every friday I get paid my rent allowance like clockwork! I was told I was getting my payments last friday. It was not there! So its not my error!!! I have forwarded the details onto ombudsman as it was an error that should not have happened at the time that it did. I could have lost my apartment, not every landlord is lenient!! and will wait until everything has been resolved especially at this time of year as money is tight.

However I'm glad to hear that any mishaps that any public servant causes in the future will be held accountable which leaves those who are unemployed and capable of doing the job properly, there are job opportunities are there :)

It takes a lot more than just one week's payment to be slightly late for a landlord to be able to evict you - please relax on that score!

Its inevitable that in a system as massive as Social Welfare that errors will happen - but they can also be rectified quickly.

Rent allowance is more commonly paid monthly - so that may have caused an error.

Your second week's rent allowance payment was being paid in advance so could not be due to be paid to your landlord yet - get in contact with the Office on Wednesday when it reopens.

If an error has been made on SWs side, they will most likely be able to resolve it before Friday.

This all happened two days before Christmas day, not all of us are fortunate to have no worries when it comes to money at this time. I have been advised that none of this issue will be resolved until the 6th of January 2012. Saying that this issue will be resolved by the end of the week is inaccurate.

Yes, this happened on the 23rd, which was the last working day before Christmas.

The offices are all back open on the 28th - get in touch then and you may be able to get it resolved sooner.

I said "most likely". And you won't know unless you try.

I had already got in contact with them on the 23rd and that is what they advised me that nothing will be resolved until the 6th of January. A week previous I was in with them to find out what the story was with christmas time and they told me that it was on the system and that it would be in the post office on the 23rd. Post office told me to go to social welfare that day, I did and it was closed. The information that got was over the telephone.

I don't care that it was last day before christmas, people are out of work and depend on the money. There lucky they have a job!! So not interested in your smart comment!!

And I'm not interested in having a row - after all I'm a civil servant here who is answering people's questions on my own time trying to help others out.

Enjoy the rest of your Christmas.

Plenty of people in employment have plenty of financial worries.

This is true. My view is mainly based on the fact that Christmas isn't a time for unnecessary errors from the state due to the current climate we currently in.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
