Nespresso problem

    Hi.

Firstly, I know nespresso is something of a dirty word here so I'm not looking to start a thread of people saying I should have avoided buying one, or I should have bought x, y or z. I have it now, I like it, so constructive comments only please:D

I have the Citiz model, Krups make, and my problem is that if water is left in the plastic reservoir for more than a few minutes it takes on a strong plastic / chemical taste and smell. I have the machine for around six weeks and it is only now I'm noticing this. Has anyone had this issue, and how did you solve it?

    Thanks.

Does the machine have a cleaning/flushing function of some sort?
Might be worth running a few litres of water through it to try clean it.

Not that I know of. I have tried running water through with no capsules in but this doesn't help. The problem seems to be in the removable reservoir (the water seems to pick up the taste / smell from the plastic of the container) and this is outside the workings of the machine as such.

It seems to have been a problem with the water. When I run it through a brita filter first it doesn't seem to pick up the "plastic / chemical" taste in the plastic reservoir. I think the water changed a couple of weeks ago, extra chlorine or something. Tastes fine on it's own but in the plastic container:eek:

Maybe try and descale the machine?

I know that can have an adverse effect on the water/coffee quality. Either that or give their Customer Service a ring. the machine should still be in warranty so itl be covered if they need to fix it or something.

I don't think this is it because the problem isn't happening in the machine as such, but in the plastic water tank / reservoir, and only when water is left standing in it for more than a few minutes. If you take the lid off the tank ten minutes after putting in water you can get the smell right away and this is before the water passes through the machine. Filtering the water first reduces the problem almost to zero and if i get pure water from a well nearby it's gone totally so it's definitely the water that's wrong. I think they must have changed something in the treatment plant a couple of weeks ago which was when the problem started, maybe adding extra chlorine and I think this must be reacting in some way with the plastic in the tank.

I use 2 Nespresso machines, one at home, one at a friend's workplace. Water stands in both of them for an hour or so and never tastes bad. Get a bottle of volvic tomorrow and put that in your Nespresso machine to confirm it is your water supply and not the machine itself.

It's fine with volvic and fine now with tap water as well. Whatever it was must have cleared now...
