    Hi folks,

Ive a springer bitch who is a rescue dog and is 3 and a half years old.

I assumed she was spayed because she has never come in heat in the 3 years since I got her from the pound.

The vet said he would have to open her up to say for sure and I never wanted that.

Now today I notice blood on the ground and thats why im posting.

Is it possible that she would come in heat for the first time now???

Im absolutely sure she has never come in heat before so its not that ive been dozing or anything. :D

Unusual for the pound to give out unspayed bitches. Is she swollen behind?? Keep an eye on the blood for day or so and ask vet if it doesn't stop. You could always ring the pound where you got her and ask if she's spayed

Did you ever hear that saying about assumtions - 'they are the Mother of all **** ups'

Its not just the blood her bearing will be swollen too. You may have missed the last time she was in heat, my springer bitch comes into heat ever 6 months or so, my GWP bitch every 9 months or so every bitch is different.

in-stayed of opening her up just bring her for a walk to the park or a place with other dogs { KEEP HER ON THE LEAD;)} If the dogs are trying to get the leg over then u know:cool: very unusual for a pound not to spay before rehoming:confused:

My two year old springer bitch hasn't come into heat yet. I have her since she was 8 weeks and I'm 100% that she hasn't come into heat so its quiet possible that its her first time. Sure fire way to check, as already said, see if a dog tries to get the leg over!;)

Thanks for the advice guys. The pound told me at the time they didnt know if she had been spayed and that they dont do it anyway. They gave me a voucher to do it, and thats when I asked the vet. But he kind of advised me not to spay her until she had had a litter.

Anyway time went by and when she never came in heat I thought she must have been spayed.

Ive now got another rescure springer and he is a dog, only got him about 3 months ago, because I thought she would never come in heat, as deeksofdoom said it might be the mother of all f***ups.

He doesnt seem to be showing much interest in her though thank god.

Watch out bud, if she is coming into heat the dog won't show interest till about a week after she bleeds. Ild separate them to be to be on the safe side if you don't want pups.

Another bitch that's in heat will bring yours in also ie if a friend of yours has a bitch who comes into heat (and you want yours to come in) put yours over there for a few days and she should come in also
    Any help??
