Nurburgring in the 70's

A compilation of incidents and accidents at Adenauer Forst, one of the most iconic and dangerous sets of corners on the Nurburgring.

The video is from the 70's, you notice how fragile a lot of the cars were back then, safety glass did'nt exist and most cars didn't have seatbelts. People seemed a lot tougher then, just jump out and get going again though I reckon the Beetle driver at 1:36 is still picking gravel out of the crack of his arse. It also seems that people took a lot of stuff with them in the car, picnics included.

The section is dodgy either way, one of the trickiest on the track, but it seems that a lot of the cars there are rear engined, the fact that most of them are probably on no more than 155 tyres and had fairly primitive suspensions would'nt help either.

    Notable mentions to:
0:24 The girl in the BMW, hope she was OK
    1:08 BMW syncronised ballet
1:25 New jocks for the VW driver
    1:36 as above
    2:26 Several new jocks please
3:00 and a skin graft here as well.

....and a special mention to the Zakspeed (? I think ?) Capri driver, must be a farmer in real life, the vid is from Rhapsodie in Blech (Rhapsody in Metal) which can be downloaded elsewhere, plenty of other vids on youtube too.

This vid is from 1967 and gives a good ideas of how narrow and bumpy the track was, look at the way the lead car bounces and the movement of the shock absorbers on the camera car. Adenauer Forst is at 0:28

How it looks today starts around 3:13 here

And how to drive the Ring with style in a RUF CTR

That guy in the Beetle at 1.37 is a tribute to the invention of Seat Belts.

In fairness most of the cars look fairly intact, i'm sure a newer car's roof would crumple much worse if it flipped like that.

I'd say most of new cars wouldn't be as easy to flip at such low speeds :)

Also the weight of modern cars doesn't help in a rollover, quick check there a beetle back then might have weighed 850kg, while a 2011 golf could easily clock 1350kg. Imagine one of the old beetles rolling with half a ton of ballast on board!!
