Any one know what type of bird this is. A pidgeon of some sort I'm guessing. Ever shot one? Can you shoot them?

Heart nearly lept from my mouth one morning:eek:. I was watering the parsley on the windowsill when bang this dropped into the back garden. Saved the pidgeon with the flash on the camera(or a cat passing maybe) .unfortunate. Wanted to see him eat it. Tasty lookin fukker:D.

Flew up onto the window when i went out to catch him with a towel after the sparrowhawk left.

I was thinking along the lines of a captive pidgeon myself. Tricky one.
Think the white looking wing is just where the hawk pulled all his feathers out, not sure though. Didn't see any rings on his legs at the time either.

Sounds like a feral/city pigeon - AFAIK you can shoot them as they are classed as vermin. I wouldn't eat one though as they are often disease- ridden from feeding on rubbish in towns and cities. An airgun is most suiteable in built-up areas and is generally the method used by pest control companies to clear them out of large buildings like warehouses, feedlots etc.
