    Hi all,
Bought a Saorview approved Laurus LR785-XB last night for 89.00 - kids and missus were going nuts so I just had to buy something for them to watch over the xmas as we cancelled our UPC a while back- just too expensive.

So I got home and rigged it up- wired up the box to the tv via scart and plugged in the rabbits ears and nothing happened when I done the auto search.

I also tried the old cable that feed the UPC box but nothing happened.

UPC did something to the cable or box at the front of the house also- is it possible that they cut the feed to the aerial so I couldnt use it for a freesat box as Im getting absolutely nothing on the auto scan- I mean the system is coming in clear on the tv but zero on the channel scan....whats going on??

One other thing is we had sky years ago and the dish is still out back on the wall feeding a room outback with a TV so I even tried the box out there with the dish cable plugged in and nothing.....The family were so excited when I showed up with the box and I just cant seem to find out where its gone wrong...even went out and bought a digital aerial to replace the rabbits ears and no joy....

Any help would be most appreciated and Merry Christmas to you all.

Saorview is a digital terrestrial system that will only work with a UHF aerial that suits the transmitter you receive from & the signal conditions at your location.

Have a look at the website: http://www.saorview.ie/

First off, there's no such thing as a "digital aerial", just an aerial.

The "digital aerial" you purchased, was this also an internal set-top/rabbit ears type?

It you're not picking anything up with an internal aerial you'll probably require an externally mounted aerial suitable for your nearest Saorview transmitter. A Sky dish or UPC feed won't give you the Saorview channels.

From the gist of the op,he is plugging a UPC cable into a freesat box,run a cable from the dish to it.
For saorview plug in an aerial and do a DIGITAL SCAN on the tv.

Read the tv manual, there's usually a quick set-up guide which will explain all connections, tuning etc. in simple easy to follow terms.

If all else fails, find an installer here http://www.isaa.tv/isaamap.htm

He says he purchased "a Saorview approved Laurus LR785-XB last night for 89.00" which he initially attached to a rabbit ears aerial, he doesn't say he has an iDTV.

I think he may be confusing Saorview and freesat terminology.

    Laurus LR75XB from Xtravision perhaps.

The Laurus box only works with an aerial, not a dish or Cable. Most places don't have enough signal for indoor (AKA Rabbits ear) aerial. You need an aerial above roof height.

The Laurus with aerial will give the Irish TV channels.

A "Freesat HD" box will give 100s of UK channels on the dish. At least 40+ decent ones inc BBC & ITV. But no Irish TV.

True, I read the post again,1st time I thought he meant that he had a saorview box and a satellite receiver.

If the op still has the old skybox why doesn't he connect it back up with the dish to get fta aswell as saorview. At least he'll have a good choice of free tv then.

I'm not at all technical, but I got a fellow in Mountmellick to put a satellite dish on my house last September. It came with a black box (Xoro) that gives me about 120 channels and he charged me €180 for the lot, with no monthly payments, since all the channels I get are FTA (free to air).:)

saorview will work from an indoor amplified ariel... i got mine from DID electrical but you can also get ones in Expert Electrical or Currys they cost about €35

this will get you the irish digital channels only

for freeview satellite & saorview you will need a dish and an ariel and a combo box kit click this link

It's an Aerial. The amplifier makes little difference unless there is an extension lead. About 90% of locations need an outdoor aerial.

Don't assume that what works for you works everywhere. Some €8 non-amplified aerials are indistinguishable in reception ability from many €50 + "Amplified aerials". Any amplified indoor aerial over €15 is overpriced.

There is is no such thing as Freeview satellite.

Freeview = DTT in the UK

FTA = Satellite. Generic receivers need retuning constantly when channels change a Tp or frequency

Freesat = Satellite. Freesat Receivers do not need retuning.

The on-line shop you linked to need read up about the skyline Hd kit they sell they say it does not need retuning when it does as its a generic FTA receiver http://swans.ie/webstore/en/digital-receivers/19-satellite-kit.html

    €260! Good god.

€200 is the most you should pay for a full kit (with a decent box not a smart cx61)
