Vauxhall manufacturers warrently in Ireland

Hi Lads, Im going buying either a focus or astra in the Uk in the new year and was wondering if anyone could help me with out with something.

If I buy an Vauxhall astra with 2 years manufacturers warrenty remaining on it, and something goes wrong with it, for instance the gear box or electric windows or some jazz like that, how would I go about getting it repaired in Ireland??

Would it be simply to pull into my local opel garage with it and let them deal with it considering they are both under the GM umbrella..... or could they turn around to me and say that ain't an Opel, jog on we're not honouring the warranty??

Under the Single Market the local branch of GM would have to honour the warranty. I used to work for a multinational here and this applied to anything manufactured by our company and purchased anywhere in the EU.

In the same scenario, brought the car to Bolands Opel in Clondalkin and there was no trouble

I'd double check the warranty.

2 year pan-european warranty generally applies to most manufacturer's, but anything in addition to that is provided by the local distributor (in this case, Vauxhall UK) so may not apply.

Opel might be able to do the warranty work and bill it to Vauxhall UK, but that's not a certainty.

There is O'Morrow's, which is a Vauxhall and Ford dealer, in Bessbrook, just over the border.

Fair point but the OP did specifically mention a 'manufacturer's warranty' so should apply cross-border.

As said above anything after pan-european warranty will be ok local distributor add on will not be honoured, had a problem with a vw transporter that i brought in from uk, 1 month past 2 year warranty, local dealer would not even look for goodwill from VW Ireland, had to pay for diagnostic check and new sensor (relieved me of 150e).
Brought the sensor back to the dealer that I purchased from in UK and was told that VW Ireland should had looked after it. Was told by UK dealer that if I had a problem inside the remainder of warranty (11 months), to just ring the roadside assistance number in the warranty doc's and they would come out and repair it under the warranty.

Im of the believe that you are nearly as well to just head north if you buy a uk car. There will be no silly excuses and 3rd year will be covered etc.

Well the thread here about the injectors in the 2.0 TDI VAG unit would certainly add a +1 to that post Mick.

I work in an Opel Dealer and we have often done warranty claims for UK/Ex UK vehicles within the 3 year warranty. The claim is done through the chassis number so if sold new in the UK the warranty will apply to the chassis number.

Thanks lads, very helpful, I'm going to double check the pan-european warrenty thingy and make sure it isn't a warrenty from cargiant and not vauxhall.... cheers CZ

The likes of cargiant usually charge extra for a third party warranty which isn't included in the sticker price of the car. No harm in checking with them though.
