SMART repairs aren't suitable for doors/bonnets/roofs/bootlids. Vandal key scratches will either have to go to a Bodyshop, or use SSR - Sprayless Scratch Repair. SSR is an alright option, they apply a tinted resin into the scratched area, buff it smooth and from anything about 2 foot away you can't see the repair. The SSR resin can be power washed out after a few years, so it's not ideal.

I did have a guy look at it and he said it is light enough... nothing too serious.

is that regardless ? the SSR doesnt sound good at all from what you say.

i want to get this fixed back to perfect condition (which isint too hard at all cos no dents etc. just scratch)

i was recommended gerry maguires from someone on here and told their great but not the cheapest about (still didnt get a chance to pop into him yet but will probably next week or week after)

the other company i'll pay a visit to will be trimtech (popularity) and see what they say.

but i do want perfect job as cheap as possible type thing.

Honestly, if you want a good job done on your doors, don't use a SMART repair. The type of repair doesn't scale up to a panel that large, unless you're doing it in an oven, and most SMART repairers don't have access to ovens. Most bodyshops won't charge a fortune for vandal scratches anyway - there's no real corrective work to be done unlike accident damage. They'll just skim the tiniest amount of stopper filler into the scratches, prime, wet and dry sand, degrease with pre-paint, mask the car, paint, and lacquer. It's a simple enough job. If I were you, I'd be phoning around to a few body shops and offering to email in photos for exact prices. You might get a nice surprise!

    Sure!

A SMART Repair is usually carried out by a mobile technician outdoors at your home, or workplace. It's a method of repairing damage, and spray painting that takes relatively little time, and can provide 90-95% of a bodyshop finish usually at anything from 25%-35% of a bodyshop's price. You'll ideally use a SMART repair for bumper corners that have been scratched, or wings/wing mirror covers/quarter panels/sills which have been slightly damaged.

A SMART repairer will use fast drying fillers, super fast drying primers, water based VOC compliant base coat, and fully VOC compliant super fast drying lacquer. This allows the likes of a bumper corner repair to be done in about 90-120 minutes.

The idea behind a SMART repair, is to paint the affected area only. Sometimes that's not possible, and you have to paint an entire panel, but you can still keep the cost down, and the repair quality as high as possible even though you're painting outdoors/not in a low bake spray oven.

This thread was a how-to guide I did on repairing and repainting a bumper corner. It's a good example of what a SMART repair is and what it entails.
