Smell of gas in car

Anyboard have any ideas? I have a 09 1.8 mondeo with a smell of gas in side. I'm thinking the only place that uses gas is the air con unit but its functioning correctly. I'll get the gas level checked tomorrow but has anybody any further ideas. No smell off the engine and no visible leaks around the engine that might cause anything to burnoff on the engine and create the smell. Car is running perfect and all fluid levels perfect.

    All you'd need xmas week:(

Something rotting in the car or engine bay could give a gassy smell. Eg a dead mouse or bird.

Another potential source for a gassy smell would be a boiling battery (due to low fluid level or faulty alternator), so cast an eye on that as well.

    Thanks guys for ths suggestions,

Ya i checked for leaks, dead animals and also checked in and around the cat as i've heard a faulty one can cause a gas smell. No signs of any dampness in the boot or in the wells in the cabin. Battery levels are fine also.
Just worried it could be gas from the air con unit coming back in. How likely is that does anybody know? Getting it checked in a while

I remember getting gas smells in my dads car when we were kids but that was from the gas bottle in the boot that the car used to be run off. It would have us feeling sick for a while...

The smell of refigerant in an AC system is totally different to the smell of gas you would get from natural gas...can you give us more info?

either way its serious and you should get it checked out immediately...

    dont leave it build up

Got this checked out yesterday and it turned out to be a faulty pipe on the aircon unit allowing the gas to leak out. It was obviously being picked up and blown back into the car. Could possibly have been dangerous. Anyways we will get it fixed after xmas. Thanks for all the replies
