I sold a used Ralph Lauren jacket on eBay last week. Today the buyer opened a not as described case against me because there was a small cigarette burn on it I hadn't mentioned in the description. I thought I had put up good pictures of it. What should I do now? I don't mind giving a refund if I get the item back. Can I offer him a few quid off what he paid see if he's happy with that?

if you said there was a smoke burn on it and he bought it then either he didnt read it or just chancing his luck do not give in to this

get him to post the jacket and you will give him a refund or notting

I never said there was a burn on it. It's so small I didn't think I needed to because it was very cheap to start with. There was no hole on the top or anything. I thought used meant there was some wear and tear involved

You should have mentioned the cigarette burn in the description, pictures are all well and good, but you really should have mentioned it.

You could ask the seller to send it back to you and offer to cover the return postage costs or you could offer a partial refund and let the buyer keep the item or let the buyer continue with the dispute.

I don't know if they'll win the dispute, but I'd say eBay will request the buyer to send the jacket back to you (via secured/registered post) and then they'll refund him or request you to refund them. Or else they will refund them and let them keep the item.

In future though, make sure to mention any marks at all, regardless of how good the photos are, it's always best to have it in the description.

Okay thanks for the advice purple bobbin. Terms of the sale are I accept returns but at the buyers cost so I don't mind refunding if I get it back. Ive sold lots of stuff before with no problems. I wasn't trying to pull a fast one or anything. Il offer him a few quid of first see what he thinks of that. Cheers

I would cut your losses, put yourself in the buyers shoes, even though you may not have meant to mislead, the buyer will think you did. Give a full refund and protect your feedback rating.

Regardless of how small the defect may be even if there is a loose thread on it you have to mention it. If you dont you are leaving yourself open to negative feedback and/or a dispute. Once you accept returns at buyers cost and with the few quid off shouldnt be a problem. But you do need to describe everything every defect.
