No rules, 5 rounds of 5 minutes.

Fighting out of Limerick, Ireland, weighing in at 245 lbs, with a professional record of 0-0, Paul "The Milkman" O'Connell!

Fighting out of Kibawe, Philippines, weighing in at 140 lbs, with a professional record of 54-3-2, Manny "The People's champion" Pacquiao!

    Let's get ready to rumble!!!

Untrained in fighting but massive O'Connell versus one of the best boxers of all time with a significant weight disadvantage.

I'd have to go with O'Connell, based on the fact that Pacquiao's boxing skills wouldn't be as effective with takedowns etc allowed, and with Paul O'Connell's size and reach advantages.

    Pacquiao in boxing for sure.
A fight - who knows. Paul might just bite him to death...

One Roar from O Connell would be enough for a Total KO.

Pacman with one bodypunch. Takes a long time to train to take those sort of bodyshots, you never get hit anything like as hard as that in rugby.

I have respect for O'Connell but Pacquiao would clearly win

he would float like a floating unit and sting like a stingbot!

Stupid question, it's not about size. It's about skill.

    Not even a close contest.

    + as we know from basic physics.......pressure = force/area

in rugby the forces may be comparable or greater but they are usually delivered over a larger area.....pacquiao has small little fists of fury so the pressure at the points of impact on o'connell would be greater

sure he might be momentarily put out by being wrapped and grappled to the ground but once he established some distance he would pummel the sh1t out of o'connells midriff

The size (and probably skill) difference is comparable between Hoost (one of the best kick boxers of all time) Sapp and these two. It is about skill, but at a certain point size starts counting big time.

No rules and people are expecting Pacqiao to stop a bullrush takedown? Ever see a boxer defend well from his back? O'Connell by GnP

Where were you going with this?

That's 2 people that are training with the same skills?

You think the ginger would catch him to make the size count? Doubt it somehow.

Also there's a vid on youtube of some japanese guy beating a massive fella, the big fella had no agility and the tiny fella beat him with submission.

Yes. Hes a damn fast mover for his size and footwork can only get you so far. This isnt a case where a clinch will be broken up by a ref.

Boxers don't train in submissions though. I seriously doubt Mannys gonna throw up a triangle from his back

It's a fight between two people with a weight difference of about the same as that between O'Connell and Pacquiao. It's also a fight between one with a huge skill advantage over the other (Hoost an hugely skilled kick boxer, Sapp very poor skills and in his 3rd fight or so). Sapp came from an NFL background, not fighting.

The bigger, significantly less skilled man wins, suggesting that it isn't a stupid question, as you said.

5 rounds....O'connell might pull it off once...doubtful he would knock pacquia out.........Pacquiao lands a couple and its all over............perhaps if O'Connell had some training to even it up a bit

Yes, for his size. And in fact, not even that fast for his size, there are quicker second rows and much quicker backrows. None of them compare to the agility of the housefly that Pacman brings to it. No matter how big O'Connell is, if he gets chinned as he's closing in, his momentum would add to the damage and it's lights out.

    Paulie vs Bernard Dunne thread

I'd have to go with Mannie here. He'd be more used to taking hits. Granted POC is a big hoor but I wouldn't think he'd be trained/skilled enough to give any sort of force behind a punch that would trouble Pacman

    video of handbags

Head down flailing and one of them lands a lucky dig. Manny would have half a dozen clean shots in in that time.
