Seems that these people in South Africa were bedding their shelters with plants known for their insecticide or repellant properties 50.000 years ago.

Interesting but not surprising at all- many animals today, including some not usually considered as very smart- know about medicinal and insect-repelling plants. Apes and monkeys are famous for treating their own illnesses with medicinal plants, but there's also harpy eagles and starlings, among other birds, lining their nests with insect-repellant and insecticide plants to protect their chicks from parasites, pretty much like the people mentioned in the article.
