    Hi there.. Im currently unemployed with 2 years..previous to this I was working for 2 years.. and before that I was unemployed for a year..and previous to that I had been working for 3 years..

    So I have an 8 year old son whom i had not been aware i could have added to my tax credits..I have joint custody of my son and I have been told I maybe able to claim a refund for years gone by! can anyone tell me if this is the case? many thanks.

    There's a credit that may be due called the One Parent Family credit. You must have the child stay over at least once per year, and cannot be cohabiting with another as man and wife (regardless of if your married or not)

    You can claim back to 2007. You'll need to get your 2007 claim in before 31/12/2011, as there is a 4 year statute limitation on claims.
