Problem: Windscreen replacement

    Car: 2006 Passat

Need a quick bit of help here. I had a windscreen replaced last week and the guy broke a piece of plastic trim on the inside on the windscreen.

It is part of the interior light unit on the roof. It's a small piece of rectangular trim with lots of little holes in it and behind it are two torx screws. Anyway long story short is that it fell off last night as i was driving along and I noticed that all of the clips are broken on it.

The guy from the windscreen replacement company says he didn't touch it but would like to have a look anyway. It's clear the screws have been opened as there are marks on them however I didn't do it.

Anyway the question is, would it be normal practice for him to remove this panel and why so i can be prepared to answer him

This has turned a bit shabby.

Guy from ALLGLASS called out and said he didn't remove the panel and it wasn't him who damaged it. It was fine until the window was done.

Anyway I called to Sinnotts to order the part and was told it would have to of bee removed to replace the windscreen.

Anyway I've now passed it to The AA who organised it in the first place. The part is only €9 I just hate being lied to:mad:

if the part you mention is obstructing the cutting blade used to remove the w/s ( i.e. within 2 or 3 mil of the edge of the metal frame the w/s sits on), then yes, he deff removed it. no question. take it to his boss and you will get a proper answer. they should have technical data sheets on each make and model of car, in terms of w/s replacement. if these state that the part should be removed prior to a w/s replacement, you are entitled to compo. any sign of adhesive around the broken part is a dead giveaway.

If the replacement piece is cheap you might be better off just to buy it instead of trying to get the windscreen co to replace it, might save a lot of hassle.

AA offered to cover the parts and any other out of pocket expenses and said they would deal with AllGLASS so I've no worries
