A4/320/Insignia choice

I'm changing my car in the New Year and just wondering what people make of these cars.

At present my number one choice is the BMW 320D. I'm looking at getting a 2008 (post tax band change), this will set me back about €17,000 - €19,000. Advantage would be that I'd only pay €156 (or however much the screw us over on the tax change).

A4 would be similar €17,000 - €19,000 plus €156 tax band. I'd prefer the 320D mainly because of the greater bhp and I like the look of it a little more (subjective I know).

If I can't get that kind of cash together (I've some money saved but will need a loan for the rest) I'll need to rethink. The cars that came into my head are the Opel Insignia CDTi 2.0 (160 bhp) and the Honda Accord. I don't know much about the Insignia other than I think it looks great. A quick check looks like I could pick up a 2009 for about €15,000-€18,000. I'm not sure of road tax or much else really. Any thoughts?

My mate recently got an Accord and I've driven it. It feels great and its definitely the cheaper option.

So any thoughts on any of the cars mentioned? Any cars in that kind of braket I've left out (I've looked at Avensis, Octavia and Passat and would prefer not to buy them)?

I'm biased. I have an Insignia, CDTi 2.0 (160 bhp), and love it. It's a lovely drive.

You should go to your local Opel garage and ask for a test drive. Some will give you the car for 24hrs to test it out. Drive it around and see what you think.
