And other brands of choclate tins of course. Although not a bargain alert per se I think it will be of interest to posters. There has been a bit of commentary about the shrinking tins of Cadbury's Roses and other brands. The focus has been on Cadbury's Roses as being the most popular brand. The Roses tin has been on offer at rates of €4.50 - €6. Which is very cheap compared to prices in the boom period.

However, although the size of the tins are the same the volume of chocolate sweets have fallen over a third and the quality has also fallen. In 2006 the Cadburys Roses tin was over 1.4kg, this years is just 850g and last years was 950g. In individual sweet terms the tin has gone from 150 in 2006 to just 95 this year. Plus some of the more popular, but expensive, sweets have disappeared from the tin and have been replaced by sweets with less chocolate.

The cost of cocoa and other raw materials has grown more expensive in the last number of years but I do think that keeping the tin size the same is really an attempt to con us as well as being environmentally reckless and imposing unnecessary costs on the consumer for excessive packaging.

    For the TL;DR crowd.

    Also not a Bargain Alert.
