My wife and I recently visited Dublin. As we drove along Bachelors Quay I prepared to oogle and drool at the window display in Cycleogical. Now I know it was late (21.30 appro) and dark on a friday night with lots of people about and we were also moving in traffic but I was shocked (we both were)to see what looked like a closed down shop.Am I correct? Is Cycleogical gone? I really hope not as it was always our first stop shop when on our annual xmas visit from Cork.I was always catered for in that shop and my wife was always given a stool to sit on while I browsed.A great bunch of guys worked there (hopefully still).:(

Nothing would surprise me in that shop.

That shop is still open ,dont know how though. It strikes me as more of a barn.

very odd shop indeed,i used to go there when cliff was there but i followed him to eurocycles,im not a big fan of the staff in cycleogical

It's still open - the shutters were just down. Big windows full of expensive bikes don't mix well with the junkies and drunken revellers around there.

"Yes, absolutely, help yourself to the pump there. No problem. Actually, have a cup of tea while we pump your wheel for you" -

that would surprise me, if the question was "Can I borrow a pump......."

It's a great shop with pretty descent staff. While Cliff was always engaging I think things have improved service wise since some new staff have come in.

I have never experienced the negativity that so many others have complained of. In fact I find that it is great place to buy consumables - they price pretty well.

Some day, some day I will buy the Colnago Master X Lite hanging from the ceiling.

I buy a few bits and pieces there and find them grand. They even indulge me while I ask questions about things I'm never likely to buy.

I dropped in last week to kill 10minutes while waiting for a bus, found it hard to kill 10minutes in it. They do not seem to have much stock at the moment, same old frames hanging up that they have had for years.

I am more surprised by the positive comments. Have heard too many horror stories so I say good riddance at this stage.

I've found them to be pretty sound - as much as you would want them to be.

Always found them rude and unhelpful, it surprises me that they didnt go out of business years ago.

I recently went into enquire about a stevens 54cm cross bike.(they have the dealership)
They had none in stock, so the guy showed me a ridley frame.
he held the frame up to me and told me it would be a perfect fit for me.
I asked him what size frame it was and he said 52cm, he then asked me what height I was.
I said 5'11, he said "your not 5'11, I am 5'11, you are about 5'9 max"
"we can build this frame up for you and it will be perfect."
I said no thank you and i am 5'11, good bye.

Now I realise that he may have been right the frame may have been a good fit, but his attitude was incredibly arrogant.
I wanted a stevens cross bike and he just tried to sell me what ever he had lying around.

Went in there 2 weeks back with gift card planning to buy overshoes - gift card wouldn't swipe, the guy told me a 3rd party supplied these and it might be out of date etc. As it was nearly 6 pm, he took my number and said he'd call me on the Monday and let me know what the supplier said.

    I'm still waiting...................

Only dealt with them once - rang the shop about a TT bike I heard that they were doing a good deal on - was told the deal was still in place and that they had my size in stock - went in same day to get the bike and after spending a good 15-20 minutes trying to get someone to even look at me finally got some obnoxious pr!ck who laughed in my face when I asked about said bike and told me they hadn't had that model in stock for weeks - have never stepped foot in the shop again.

We don't do real names on Boards. General negative comments based on hearsay are not permitted but if posters want to mention their personal experiences of a particular shop that's fine. You are entitled to do the same.

A great bunch of lads - Serious cycling experience and expertise in the shop.

Always welcoming, always some friendly banter and always top service (in my experience)

I know so many strories of how the lads in there went the extra mile to dig guys out of a hole on very short notice.

A shop that rewards loyal costumers with a almost unrivaled consumer experience.

Real cycling lads in a real cycling shop

.... after what I read here, I went into the shop today with an open but watchful eye.
The 2 lads in the shop Darragh and Sean (i think his name was) were really nice, I do not understand what all the bad press is about, I asked a lot of questions as I am looking to but a new bike and they could not have been more helpful, friendly and attentive.

I have to say all the negativity on here seems to be very broad and sweeping, if people have something bad to say, I would really like to know EXACTLY the problem was, I found them very professional, friendly and they knew what they were talking about.

well done lads, keep up the good work

Pretty sure you get treated a bit better (everywhere) when you're asking about a new bike and not something a lot less expensive and harder to source.

There's another long thread detailing experiences, good and bad, with Cycleogical.

I have personally found them in the past to be friendly and competent with a soupçon of batshít crazy.

My favourite bike shop when I am in Dublin. Great bike porn. Lads in there can be really really sound. I have gotten great value In there on tubes, tyres, co2canisters, gels etc

Based on my experiences there and the contents of the two threads I'd sum up and say that the main problem and often the main plus point of Cycleogical is that they exhibit a kind of clubhouse attitdue, rather than feeling they are neccessarily in a "the customer is always right" retail environment.

It's mostly young guys there now, who sometimes even to a newcomer like me are blatantly spoofing.

Oftentimes you feel like you're just an unwelcome interuption in their day but obviously if you can get on the inside track (I've managed that in another cycle shop where I kill hours every month but have never made a purchase of more than €120) they can be nice, helpful guys.
