Does anyone know please if the BBC or ITV "red button streams" are still accessible on an FTA receiver? They used to sometimes carry extra snooker, etc.

The channels just got a little shuffle during the recent changes to the BBC sat channels. They should still be there, just now labelled 6711, 6712 etc. instead of stream 1, 2....

You may need to delete the old 'stream' channels and do a rescan to pick them up if they're not already there.

Thanks. Got the BBC streams. Are there ITV (or other) streams?

Also is there a schedule anywhere of what's on each stream?

Really makes more sense to have a real "Freesat HD" receiver now. You will miss out on MHEG5 based info that makes sense of the streams.

There are at times ITV streams

I've never seen any sensible guide to what's on the Streams. They are not intended to be used directly.

The BBC have a weekly guide of sorts in their blog here... http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2011/12/whats_on_bbc_red_button_december_take_that.html.
The channels can be scanned on 11954h.

It seems ITV intend withdrawing their red-button services early in 2012.

Are you talking about a Freesat+ receiver?

The "+" means PVR built in and other features.

HD is the minimum to buy now for satellite even if you don't have an HDTV.

    For four reasons:
    1) HD even downsampled to SD on RGB SCART is about 30% better quality than the SD BBC.
    2) Some content may only be on an HD channel
    3) increasingly there may even be SD channels that use DVB-S2 or MPEG4 or both (Both supported by "Freesat HD" boxes.
    4) you might get an HDTV.

Obviously a "Freesat + HD" PVR with ethernet for "OTT" content (Internet content) is best solution.

SD / DVB-S only / MPEG2 only Generic FTA receivers with usually no MHEG5 are virtually "product dumping" at this stage.
