Galaxy S2 duplicate contacts

Hi,
My better half has got herself an S2. Over the weekend we went through the process of transferring all contacts to goggle contacts. We then selected to have only goggles contacts displayed. (All contacts are also on the sim card in case she ever has to switch to a non android phone temporarily). She has also linked a number of contacts to their Facebook counterparts. Anyway when she goes into contacts all we see are the google contacts, each entry only once. However when writing a text message and she selects the contact to send it to, all contacts are repeated twice. Those with Facebook link show the persons profile pic on both but the pic is slightly more zoomed in on one. Has anyone seen this before?

I had a similar issue when I first had mine, I think its because when texting it pulls contacts from all available sources on the phone be it contacts, sim, facebook, viber, skype etc..

Have you tried going to google contacts and under "more" -> find duplicates and merge contacts? It will merge accounts from FB etc into existing contacts, may remove the issue.

Tell her to download a different app for text such as handcent. This is what I was told to do and it works. Doesnt show up all the duplicated contacts like the stock messenger app does.
