Personally I don't think I would, some of the dirt you'd hear people thinking about you, you family, friends etc could drive you insane.

Then again, there are certain people whom I would like to know their honest opinion of myself, however badly that may backfire :P

So AHers, would you like to read minds?

    I can read minds.

But I have to cut them out of the skull first so it gets messy.

Nope, I wouldn't, ignorance is bliss (most of the time).

If you could turn it on and off I'd like it. If not you'd just go crazy hearing everyone's thoughts constantly.

That's what I mean. When you walk past someone on the street you could just look into their mind and stop whenever you want.

That I'd like. Then you could choose if you wanted to know what they were thinking or not. I'd rather know what people think about me, I'm nosy.

It'd be great for the likes of business deals, poker etc - easy to get ahead.

It'd also be great for chatting up the women, you'd know when you're pressing the right buttons so to speak.

Problem is, you'd soon get paranoid - everything people say to you, you'd be questioning it thinking they may be lying and so you'd read their mind.

When you want to surprise someone with a gift, I'd imagine it'd be very difficult to not read their mind to know what they want, so you wouldn't really need to apply yourself to getting to know someone.

I think it would have a lot of drawbacks.

    Can you not tell ?

I'd like to be able to determine if someone was honest and genuine.......beyond that it'd take some of the fun out of life.

Same, I have to know what someone thinks of me, sounds stupid but I get pretty insecure when I know someone doesn't like me :p

    Damn!
Find out what her favourite movie and actor is for me.

"I love that movie Forrest Gump, Tom Hanks is in it. He's like my favourite actor.

Her: "Oh my God, me too! We have so much in common!"

    **cue me getting the roide**

If your any way perceptive you can read some ones none verbal reactions to what your saying to them you can nearly pre-empt there answers to a degree.

    Tho knowing them would help..

You don't need to be able to read minds to know what people think about you, their actions speak for themselves.

But we can read minds can we not?

Isn't it a characteristic of the higher primates?

    Post-Google Edit:
Empathy allows us to feel the emotions of others, to identify and understand their feelings and motives and see things from their perspective. How we generate empathy remains a subject of intense debate in cognitive science.

Some scientists now believe they may have finally discovered its root. We're all essentially mind readers, they say.

The idea has been slow to gain acceptance, but evidence is mounting.
